The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug is a 2013 high fantasy adventure film directed by Peter Jackson and the second installment in The Hobbit trilogy. The film is based on the 1937 novel The Hobbit by J. R. R. Tolkien, and is the second of three films in The Hobbit film trilogy.
