This line hits hard. Throughout the series, the "love junkie" premise has been a metaphor for vulnerability. Chapter 9 strips that metaphor bare. It forces the characters to look at each other not as an addict and a dealer, or a user and a supplier, but as two people terrified of getting hurt.
