You realize that Brunson’s writing is so strong, her structure so sound, that it survives the degradation. The joke about the "thirsty" plant in the corner lands perfectly even if you can’t tell what kind of plant it is. The tragedy of the old rug—brown, stained, and potentially hazardous—feels more visceral because you can’t quite make out the stains. Your imagination fills in the gaps with horrors far worse than the prop department intended.
