They ascend via an anti-gravity current to the floating city. The Keeper reveals the city was built by an advanced civilization that fled Earth's surface to escape a cataclysm. The city's core can manifest thoughts—but only selfless ones. Jax arrives, tries to force the core to grant him unlimited wealth and control, which instead begins collapsing reality. Sean realizes the only way to stop it is to let go of the thing he wants most (finding his long-lost mother, a subplot throughout).
