Here’s where it gets interesting. Truecaller is essentially selling inside an app whose main job is to filter out unwanted calls. The Gold badge does nothing to stop spammers. It doesn’t improve call quality or add security. What it does do is trigger a small dopamine hit when someone sees that gold icon – “I’m a verified, paying, important caller.”
