Morgana in Season 5 is a far cry from the ward of Camelot we met in Season 1. By Episode 2, her descent into obsession is complete. Katie McGrath portrays Morgana with a frantic, desperate edge. She isn't just looking for a throne anymore; she is looking for security against a fate she fears. Her interactions with the Diamair reveal her greatest weakness: her inability to understand that knowledge doesn't equate to peace. The Climax and the Prophecy

Merlin is losing hope. He sees Mordred alive, trusted, and heroic. He sees Arthur stubbornly kind. He sees the prophecy tightening like a noose. Finna's death reminds him: he is alone. No one else knows the weight. And the "golden age" keeps slipping further away.

The prophecy says: "The bane of Arthur is the druid boy — he will tear down the walls of Camelot." Everyone (including the audience) assumes "bane" means enemy/destroyer. But by the episode's end:

Arthur's defining trait in this episode is trust. He frees Mordred (a former enemy), believes in his redemption, and refuses to see betrayal as possible.
