SwitchDroid is a strain of mobile ransomware targeting the Android operating system. Belonging to the broader category of "screen-locker" malware, SwitchDroid does not typically encrypt files (crypto-ransomware) but rather locks the user out of the device interface. It displays a persistent, overlay screen that accuses the user of a crime (usually viewing illegal content) and demands a "fine" or payment to unlock the device. switchdroid
