Kaelen can't just order machines. He must persuade them. Using the mobile portal, he sends "Whispers" (emotional payloads disguised as firmware updates). A machine that feels respected will overclock itself to meet a deadline. A machine that feels betrayed will introduce microscopic flaws into every 10,000th part—a silent sabotage that bankrupts the client downstream.

Through the portal's forensic audio tool, Kaelen discovers that Grendel has a 1.7-second audio recording from ten years ago: the sound of a worker's arm being pulled in, followed by the factory owner (Kaelen's father) telling the paramedics it was "operator error."
