Most casual users stop at one spin. But the engineers at Google, known for their playful sense of humor, added an extra layer. If you type (or simply type “do a barrel roll” twice in a row), the page doesn’t just spin once and stop.

The command is a direct reference to Star Fox (1993) for the Super Nintendo. In the game, your wingman Peppy Hare famously shouts, “Do a barrel roll!” to help you evade enemy fire. (Fun fact for physics purists: What the ship does in the game is technically an aileron roll , but the name stuck.)

(Alternatively, you can often type "do a barrel roll twice" or even "do a barrel roll 5.6 times" for varying speeds.)

A barrel roll is an aerial flight maneuver in which an aircraft makes a complete rotation on its longitudinal axis while moving forward. It's a fundamental aerobatic maneuver that's essential for pilots to master.

If you’ve spent any time on the internet in the last decade, you’ve inevitably stumbled across one of Google’s most beloved Easter eggs: the "Do a Barrel Roll" trick.
