The HSBC Internet Banking Security Device (marketed as the HSBC Secure Key ) is a physical hardware token designed to provide two-factor authentication (2FA) for online banking transactions. It generates a unique, time-sensitive One-Time Password (OTP) to verify a user’s identity, significantly reducing the risk of unauthorized access, phishing, and man-in-the-middle attacks. While HSBC has been migrating many retail customers to mobile-based authentication (digital Secure Key), the physical device remains in use for corporate/business accounts and as a backup or primary method in select regions.
