The story begins with Goddess Parvati, the consort of Lord Shiva. One day, before going for a bath, Parvati wanted a guard to stop anyone from entering her private chambers while she bathed. Since her attendant Nandi (Shiva’s bull) was unavailable, she decided to create one herself.
Parvati, upon learning of Vinayaka's demise, was devastated. She requested Shiva to bring back Vinayaka's life. Shiva, feeling regretful, sent his attendants to find the head of the first living being they encountered. They returned with the head of an elephant, which they attached to Vinayaka's body. Parvati's love and blessings brought Vinayaka back to life, and he was reborn with the head of an elephant.
He stated that no ritual, prayer, or sacrifice would be fruitful unless Ganesha was invoked first. He was made the leader of the Ganas (Shiva’s army), earning the name or Vinayaka (The Supreme Leader).
