Mishkat al-Masabih (translated as "A Niche for Lamps") is one of the most celebrated and widely studied collections of Hadith in the Sunni Muslim world. Compiled by Imam Wali-ud-Din Muhammad ibn Abdullah al-Khatib al-Tabrizi (d. 741 AH / 1341 CE), it serves as an expanded and refined version of an earlier work, Masabih al-Sunnah by Imam al-Baghawi. 1. The work is an expanded version of an earlier collection titled Masabih al-Sunnah (The Lamps of Sunnah), which was compiled by (d. 516 AH / 1122 CE). While al-Baghawi’s work was praised for its thematic organization, it faced criticism because he omitted the chains of narration ( isnads ) and did not specify the exact source for each Hadith. mishkat masabih
