Older encodes of Robin Hood S01 were typically formatted in x264 (H.264). While these files looked good, they were heavy. A single episode in 720p or 1080p could easily take up 1GB to 2GB of space.
The source is grainy British television from the mid-2000s. I tried a standard x264 (CRF 18) and got ~500MB/ep, but the grain looked blocky. Switched to and the file size dropped to ~280MB/ep while keeping the grain intact without macroblocking.
