In 1994, SNK released the Neo Geo AES (Advanced Entertainment System), a home console that was designed to be compatible with the arcade version of the Neo Geo. The AES was expensive, with a launch price of around $1,000, but it offered a unique opportunity for gamers to play arcade-quality games in the comfort of their own homes.
