The experience begins when the Jose Gasparilla , packed with hundreds of pirates in full regalia, breaches the horizon. Accompanied by a flotilla of hundreds of private boats, the ship sails into the harbor. It is a scene of controlled chaos and revelry. Cannons fire (blanks), and the sound of "Yo ho ho" echoes across the water.

In 1718, the pirate ship "Santísima Trinidad" was anchored in Tampa Bay, where the pirates used it as a base to launch attacks on Spanish and British shipping. The ship was said to be heavily armed and manned by a crew of seasoned pirates. The presence of the pirate ship in Tampa Bay had a significant impact on the local economy and politics, with many merchants and traders being forced to pay tribute to the pirates.
