Porco Rosso Explication

Marco chooses to become a pig because he rejects humanity. He rejects the jingoism of the fascists (represented by the secret police), he rejects the romance of war, and he rejects his own right to be happy. Being a pig allows him to be a "failure" on his own terms—selfish, cynical, and detached from a society he views as broken.
