Drakon leads a revolt inside the ludus. Gladiators take up wooden swords. Ashur, alone in his quarters, smiles. He opens a hidden chest – inside: Batiatus’ melted ring now forged into a sica sword (Thracian curved blade).

Episode 1 sets up a study of power dynamics. Unlike Spartacus , which was a story of liberation, House of Ashur promises to be a story of consolidation. It asks: What happens when the slave becomes the master? The premiere suggests that Ashur will be a crueler master than Batiatus because he knows the tricks of the enslaved.
