ASTM A307 is the standard specification for low-carbon steel bolts, studs, and threaded rods intended for general engineering applications. It is the most common commercial grade of fastener used in non-critical, low-strength bolting. Unlike higher-strength bolts (such as ASTM A325 or A490), A307 bolts are not intended for structural connections subject to high stress or vibration, but rather for flange connections, anchor bolts, utility poles, and light machinery.
Note: ASTM A307 Grade C has been officially withdrawn by ASTM International. It was previously used for high-strength, non-structural applications but has been largely replaced by ASTM F1554 (Anchor Bolts) or F568M.
The specification is divided into three distinct grades, each serving a different application:
