This paper examines the function of previous national tests (nationella prov) in geography for Swedish Year 9 students (ages 15–16). While the Swedish National Agency for Education (Skolverket) periodically updates test formats, old tests remain valuable tools for formative assessment, teaching guidance, and student preparation. This paper analyzes the typical structure of these tests—including source-based questions, map skills, and interdisciplinary elements—and discusses how past exams can inform current pedagogy.
