Created by Joe Simon and Jack Kirby, Captain America first appeared in Captain America Comics #1 (March 1941). The character was born out of the United States' desire for a patriotic symbol during World War II. Steve Rogers, a frail and scrawny young man from Brooklyn, was transformed into a powerful super-soldier through a top-secret government experiment.
