Unlike many Bollywood adaptations that shy away from tragedy, Bhansali commits fully. The final 20 minutes—where Ram and Leela die in a rain of bullets, surrounded by their families’ hatred—is operatic, heartbreaking, and haunting. The “Dhoop” montage that follows (their bodies united on a pyre) stays with you long after the credits roll.
