If you are a musician, this is critical. The F998 ASIO driver offers 2-in/2-out operation at buffer sizes as low as 64 samples. On a modern laptop, I measured round-trip latency at 11ms. That is not RME quality, but for a budget guitarist running Amplitube or a podcaster using real-time VST plugins, it is perfectly usable.
Use the generic "C-Media 6206" driver pack or the open-source snd-usb-audio quirks on Linux. There is also a GitHub project called "F998-Controller" (27 stars) that lets you send raw USB HID commands to the knobs via Python. This allows you to map the physical knobs to control Spotify volume or OBS scene transitions. That is a level of customization the stock software never intended.
