In modern times, the guru-murid relationship continues to evolve, adapting to changing social, cultural, and educational contexts. While traditional forms of guru-shishya parampara (teacher-disciple lineage) continue to thrive, new forms of mentorship and guidance have emerged, often blending traditional approaches with modern pedagogies and technologies.

The guru-murid relationship typically begins with the student seeking out a guru, often with the recommendation of parents or family members. The student approaches the guru with a sense of reverence and respect, and the guru, in turn, assesses the student's potential and suitability for their teachings. Once the guru agrees to take on the student, the murid is expected to surrender themselves to the guru's guidance and teachings.
