Metal Slug , a run-and-gun arcade classic by SNK, is not traditionally associated with esports. However, a dedicated global community has cultivated a competitive ecosystem based on speedrunning, scoring (point-pressing), and cooperative performance. This paper analyzes the structural elements that enable competitive play—frame-perfect mechanics, enemy spawn manipulation, and resource management—and evaluates the scene's organization, major events, and challenges to mainstream recognition. We conclude that while Metal Slug lacks direct PvP mechanics, its precision-demanding PvE format offers a legitimate, albeit niche, esports discipline.
