Inspection Checklist ((install)) | Centrifugal Pump
1. General & Visual Inspection (Daily/Weekly)
[ ] Housekeeping – Area around pump is clean, dry, and free of hazards. [ ] Leaks – No visible leakage from casing, seals, gaskets, or piping connections. [ ] Corrosion/Damage – Pump base, casing, and fasteners are free from rust, cracks, or physical damage. [ ] Nameplate & Labels – Legible; confirms correct pump, speed, impeller size, and MOC. [ ] Coupling Guard – Securely in place, not rubbing on rotating parts. [ ] Foundation & Bolts – Anchor bolts tight; no excessive vibration transmitted to baseplate. [ ] Piping Support – Suction/discharge pipes independently supported (no strain on pump nozzles).
2. Suction Side Inspection
[ ] Suction Strainer – Clean and unobstructed (if installed). [ ] Suction Valve – Fully open (never throttle on suction side). [ ] Suction Pipe – No air pockets, leaks, or signs of cavitation (pitting noise). [ ] NPSH Available – Verified > NPSH required; liquid level above pump centerline (for flooded suction). [ ] Foot Valve (if submerged) – Works properly; holds prime. centrifugal pump inspection checklist
3. Mechanical Seals & Packing
[ ] Gland/Seal Leakage – Packing: slight weep (5–60 drops/min). Mechanical seal: zero or minimal vapor mist. [ ] Flush/Piping Plan – Seal flush lines open, clean, and at correct pressure/temperature. [ ] Seal Chamber – No excessive heat or steam flashing. [ ] Gland Adjustment – Not overtightened; allows slight leakage for lubrication (packing only).
4. Lubrication (Bearings)
[ ] Oil Level – At correct sight glass mark (not over/underfilled). [ ] Oil Condition – Clear, no water droplets, cloudiness, or metallic particles. [ ] Grease (if grease-lubricated) – Proper quantity; no purge contamination. [ ] Bearing Temperature – Below 82°C (180°F) or as per manufacturer. [ ] Oil Leaks – No weeping from bearing housings or end covers. [ ] Last Oil Change Date – Recorded and within schedule.
5. Alignment & Coupling
[ ] Shaft Alignment – Within tolerance (check with dial gauge or laser alignment tool). [ ] Coupling Condition – No wear, cracks, or missing elastomer (for flexible couplings). [ ] Coupling Gap – Correct axial spacing per manual. [ ] Soft Foot – Pump/motor feet sit flat; shims secure. [ ] Corrosion/Damage – Pump base, casing, and
6. Electrical / Driver Inspection (Motor/Engine)
[ ] Motor Bolts – Tight. [ ] Motor Fan – Clean and rotating freely (no obstructions). [ ] Current Draw (FLA) – Within ±5% of rated amps; balanced across phases. [ ] Voltage – Stable, within ±10% of rating. [ ] Motor Bearing Noise – No grinding or unusual sounds. [ ] Overload / Protection – Thermal or breaker settings correct.
