The emergency lights kicked on, bathing the car in a dim, blood-red glow. Shadows stretched long and distorted across the aisles.
Suddenly, the train gave a violent lurch. The lights flickered and died, plunging the car into total darkness. The screech of metal on metal died out, replaced by an eerie silence. The train had stopped.
